Many couples suffer from relationship breakdowns when lovemaking is diminished. This can be due to various sexual roadblocks ranging from performance anxiety to past trauma affecting current relationships. The perceived failure to adequately perform takes a toll on our most intimate bonds, which may further propel feelings of personal shortcomings, lack of attractiveness and a spiral of shame and embarrassment. Loneliness and isolation may also manifest in those who silently suffer, as speaking openly about the issues entices fears of judgment and rejection. Our ability to express ourselves sexually penetrates so much more than our physical world, it is a deeply psychological and emotional experience as well.
The Solution
Hypnotherapy can provide a safe space for individuals to explore, confront, and address these issues, facilitating healthier intimacy and improved sexual health. The core of many sexual and intimacy issues often lies in the subconscious—whether it be past traumas, societal conditioning, or personal anxieties. Hypnotherapy provides a pathway to communicate with the subconscious mind, allowing individuals to recognize and address deep-seated beliefs or fears that may be inhibiting intimacy or causing sexual dysfunction. By reshaping these inner narratives, it’s possible to alter the emotional and psychological responses to intimacy and sexual stimuli. After undergoing hypnotherapy, many individuals report increased confidence in intimate situations, reduced anxiety, and improved sexual satisfaction. By addressing the root causes of their concerns, they can foster healthier relationships, both with their partners and with themselves.
The Science
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis highlighted that hypnotherapy can be effective in treating sexual dysfunctions. It emphasized that a significant number of sexual issues stem from psychological blocks that can be addressed through hypnotherapy, resulting in improved sexual function and satisfaction (Barnett, 1989).

After earning her BA in Psychology from Portland State University with a focus on Human Development and Parapsychology, Kristen went on to study at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute College of Hypnotherapy.
There, she achieved honors as a Certified Hypnotherapist and became a member of the American Hypnosis Association. She also works as an instructor of Guided Imagery Meditation at Unplug Meditation. Kristen’s expertise in Early Childhood Development and certifications in Child and Advanced Child Hypnotherapy have enabled her to work with clients of all ages, while educating parents on how to foster positive behavior through better communication.
Additionally, her interest in psychosomatic conditions has led her to receive special certifications in stress reduction and pain management; she is also an avid user of NLP, the Eriksonian school of thought, and guided imagery. Believing that anything can be achieved with the power of belief is what drives her. HMI has hired Kristen both during schooling and after graduation; there she helps educate new students as well as presents news about upcoming events for the college or hosts seminars for the American Hypnosis Association.

After being exposed to Hypnotherapy while prepping for grad school in Psychology, I decided to try it out. Astonishingly, the therapy was both simple and remarkably effective. This solidified my resolve that if I wanted to make a real impact in people’s lives, this was the way to go. Now, I am a Hypnotherapist and proudly refer to myself as “a professional belief system enhancer”. It’s something I find incredibly rewarding!

Zara Nazir is a Certified Hypnotherapist with a background in Cognitive Neuroscience. Through her extensive study of the brain and diverse experience in the field of mental health, she found her passion of working with both the conscious and subconscious mind to facilitate transformative change through hypnotherapy. Zara’s methods involve diving into the depths of her clients’ experiences, facilitating a profound sense of self-awareness, and providing tools, techniques, and guidance to create effective and lasting life changes.

Taking care of our mental health and well-being is akin to taking care of our physical health. The more time, energy, and consistency we show, the greater results we will inevitably achieve, and the better we will feel. In my practice, I prioritize providing clients with practical tools and techniques embedded within our sessions which they can then use outside of therapy in their everyday lives.
Through writing assignments, breathing exercises, self-hypnosis, and other tasks assigned in between sessions, clients are able to strengthen the formation of new neural pathways and reinforce their results. Providing tools empowers my clients to actively participate in their healing journey, and enables them to navigate challenges independently.
My approach involves a thorough assessment of how my client’s upbringing and environmental factors play an active role in their behaviors, emotions, and patterns. With this new found awareness, they are then able to explore these elements through guided hypnosis. Therapy can never rely on a one size fits all approach. This is why I customize every session, build upon previous interactions, and tailor techniques to my clients’ individual needs and preferences.

Working with me means non-judgement and connecting with your inner wisdom. Non-judgement is important in creating a safe place when using hypnotherapy because it allows the client to feel comfortable and relaxed. When people feel judged, they are more likely to be defensive and closed off. This can make it difficult for them to be hypnotized and to benefit from the therapy.
Hypnotherapy is a state of heightened suggestibility. This means that you will be more open to suggestion and more likely to accept new ideas and beliefs.
In addition, non-judgement creates a sense of safety and security. This is important because hypnotherapy can sometimes be a challenging experience because we dive into the depths, the very root of your suffering. You may be asked to confront difficult memories or emotions.
For all of these reasons, non-judgement is an essential part of creating a safe place for hypnotherapy. When you feel comfortable and relaxed, you are more likely to be open to the suggestions that are offered and to benefit from the therapy.
Here are some of the protocols I follow to create a non-judgemental environment:
